Individual Counselling:
Sessions focus on incorporating interventions that cater to your specific needs. Since each person is unique, various science-based approaches are adapted to help address your particular circumstances. We work together in a collaborative way so you gain insights, new perspectives, and strategies to help you sustainably live well.
Example of the types of clients that I support:
- Often my clients will be experiencing low moods, exhaustion or intense anxiety. We work together to identify the underlying issues in order to build a tool kit of specific strategies for them to address, manage, and overcome these types of challenges. Strong emotions and feelings can be very overwhelming, so it is my goal to help each person experiencing these types of things to take control of their lives.
- I work with many clients who have experienced a significant loss and/or life event. Changes can be very uncomfortable, especially when they are not something that we choose. I help people work through processing these changes and integrating the shifts into a new reality that is meaningful and valuable for them.
- Many people today turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms to manage their suffering. Whether this is toxic relationship patterns, overworking, or using substances. We work together to understand the underlying needs that need to be met. I support the person to create new healthy routines, and develop healthy coping strategies so that they can live a life free from behaviours that keep them trapped.
- "I can't stop thinking about …. it keeps me up at night." OR: "I overthink everything, and am stuck in my head." These are things I hear from people regularly. Together we work to break down this exhausting and numbing pattern of thinking. We reframe, and challenge unhelpful thoughts, while reducing the experience of racing thoughts. Calming the mind can really help one's overall well-being.
- "There's a problem that I'm facing that I just can't seem to figure out." Typically, people don't want to discuss these things with friends or family, or they have, and it hasn't helped them. I offer an outside perspective and we work together to look at problems from different angles. There are specific ways to look at problems in differently, and I help the person to learn these techniques so they can apply them to their current and future situations.
