Laura Loewen MA, RCC

Credentials:

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors, and have a Master of Arts Degree in Counselling  Psychology  from Yorkville University. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Justice Studies from Royal Roads University and a Primary Care Paramedic diploma from the Justice Institute of British Columbia.

Personal Information:

For the last 20+ years I have worked in both the private and public health sectors in various roles. Many years ago while working in emergency medicine, I sustained an injury that left me with some physical limitations and chronic pain. After that, I attended counselling myself, and got the help I needed to decide and establish a realistic and meaningful new path for my life.  My life experiences have both challenged me and strengthened me, and have greatly contributed to my goal of helping others overcome their own life struggles.

I chose "living well," or LWCS, because I believe that every person deserves to live well and experience life to the fullest, regardless if one has been struggling for a short time or a long time. Everyone has the ability to grow and adapt and make the next part of their journey the best chapter yet.

In my personal time I enjoy swimming, traveling, scuba diving, gardening, and I love keeping up to date on the latest physical and mental health related research. I have been married for 17 years and we have 2 bernedoodle dogs that are in training to become therapy dogs.  With my husband and 2 fur babies, we love to get out and enjoy all the nature in this beautiful area, and I love living in the Okanagan!

Professional Approach:

My mission statement is to provide a safe and confidential space to comfortably explore yourself and your circumstances in order to increase your well-being and ability to live well!

My approach is based on the belief that each person is the director in their own lives, and counselling begins not at a predetermined place, but wherever you are currently.  I work from the perspective that humans are wonderfully complex beings, and because of this, living well is influenced by one’s biology, psychology, social, and spiritual characteristics.  I believe in transparency, and this means discussing the science-based techniques and interventions so that you can take control of your progress.  My role is to help you gain insights and tools to make lasting changes that are positive and meaningful in your life.

I am honored to support individuals, couples, and families in private practice. I specialize in helping individuals who feel stuck in their lives because of unhelpful habits, abusive situations, intense feelings and worries, or not having a healthy balance. Together we can make positive and healthy changes!
